Best Chair Ever

Skip got a new wheelchair yesterday. She had a pretty cool one before, but this new one has every bell and whisle imaginable. It's a mid-wheel drive machine, so it has a tighter turning radius that her previous chair, which had rear wheel drive. It's got all sorts of power features, primarily designed to help the user change pressure points to head off development of pressure sores. It tilts. It reclines. The legs can be raised up. The best feature? You can raise the seat up a full 12". This will be great for Skip, especially in social settings, where she can be more at eye level when speaking to people who are standing. It's just completely cool.

At rest - cool body color, eh?

With the seat elevated

The seat fully reclined and the legs lifted

Waffles - that's right! Especially the color, which I love.

Muff - well, it is a cool chair, but it sucks to need it.

Love the color! It's a Cadillac of 'chairs! The smaller turning radius will come in handy in your new house, too.

Webster - that turning radius will come in handy everywhere. In our Element, the old chair just fit in, this smaller footprint and turning radius should be a big help.

Cranky, I am wondering if you know of anyway to help my husband pay for a chair. He recently qualified for SSI Disability but has yet to receive a check. He could really use a chair like that. I am so glad your wife has one.

LL - thanks for your note. To get hers, Skip needed a prescription and evaluation by her neurologist and an evaluation/letter from a physical therapist documenting the need for all the chair's special features. Then, we worked with a wheelchair provider that knows how to work with Medicare for purposes of funding it. The process takes a long time ... over 6 months all told, as I recall.

Hi Cranky,
what a great looking wheelchair, what is the name of the chair.
I hope that Skip enjoys it a lot this summer.
Love,
Herrad

Herrad - hi! so glad to hear from you. The brand of chair is Permobil. It's Swedish, I believe. Skip's previous chair was a Permobil as well and it provided good service. This one has an improved seat, so was especially appealing.
