Overwhelmed and Edge of Cranky

I've been feeling a bit overwhelmed since I got back from my trip to North Carolina. Perhaps I'd been feeling more stressed about the trip than I was acknowledging. Perhaps I was a little disappointed that Skip wasn't feeling that sense of accomplishment (or at least didn't say she was) that has been a typical reaction once my travels actually began. Perhaps it was a reaction to being thrown out of my comfortable routines for a few days. Whatever the causes, the overwhelmed feeling started right away after getting home.

Feeling like the demands are a bit too much for me puts me on the edge of cranky. It's so easy to topple over that edge with a crabby reaction at the slightest provocation. And, that's exactly what I did for a day or so.

Yesterday, I drove the two hours each way to visit with my parents. Nice to get some alone time in the car. Good to visit and feel that I help them out. Good knowing that MW has all in order for Skip back home.

This morning, I did a bit of organizing. Unpacked and put away medical supplies and some pills that came for Skip through mail-order. Went through mail and paid some bills. Washing machine is running a load of wash. Will have some time today for a few honey-do list items to feel even more organized. I love Sundays! Who can feel overwhelmed with so much time to get your own little piece of the world in order?

OK, good. We are two different people. Although disorganization makes me cranky, I'll never be accused of being organized.

Did you at least have some good driving weather? My father hadn't had a proper shower since he moved into his new home last March. While visiting last weekend, I took the opportunity to hook him up with a shower bench and grab rails. Really made him smile.

I know what you mean kind of! With my anxiety disorder, I get overwhelmed really easily. Every few weeks I drive to the city for grocery shopping. It's a long tiring day. I run from one place to the next, rushing around because I don't want to leave the dogs too long (one has kidney failure, so I worry about him ALL the time!). When I get home, on those days, I'm not feeling relief, it is truly overwhelming. I have to unpack, organize and take care of the dogs and it's just too much! I'm so used to it now that I put away the stuff for the fridge and that's it for a few days, everything stays in the bags because I just can't do it! Kind of the same thing I think, just a different situation!

Steve - I'm somewhat organized, really depends upon the thing. Skip's pills - organized; work to do list - not so much.

Driving to/from my parents had good weather, except for about 20 minutes of heavy rain as I left their house Sat nite.

Isn't it great to feel that you can help out? Your Dad must have been delighted to have the shower bench and grab bars.

Rain - True about how being overwhelmed shuts down the ability to get things done. I found myself being quite unproductive at work on Friday. Hard to get the brain wrapped around work with lots of random crap swirling around the brain.

Hi Cranky,

Hope you are feeling more at home again.

Remember that in the past if I was away from home would take a wee while to get back into the groove of home life again.

Take it easy.
Hope you have a good week.

Love,
Herrad
