Forgot to say we have neither of us ever seen Dachshunds of that colour before, they are gorgeous and we are quite in love with them.

Yes, the piebald variety is pretty unusual in dachshunds. I have never seen any others in person besides these two. Skip fell in love with this coloration and found a breeder in TX, which is where our two came from. They flew up to Massachusetts to join our home.
