Feeling a Bit Restless

Life is going along pretty smoothly. Status quo. Steady state. Same old same old.

I haven't been too cranky, though maintaining good spirits around bedtime remains a challenge. Skip is doing fairly well, except for a couple of wounds on her "undercarriage" that aren't healing readily. Work keeps me busy. All the routines around the house are comforting, and help to keep us grounded and feeling that life is in order.

I don't want a crisis to shake things up. But I do want to inject a bit out of the ordinary into our lives. Something like a trip into Boston to see live theater, a day out with Skip to "leaf peep" the fall foliage, or maybe a day where MW stays with Skip for the day and I run off to be irresponsible and play some poker at a Connecticut casino. Maybe we should take in a Red Sox baseball playoff game at Fenway Park (these tickets are normally unavailable, but wheelchair seats can usually be had for just about any game). At this point, I think I'd be happy just to go to a movie in a theater and eat too much buttered popcorn.

Whatever we end up doing, I've got itchy feet and they want to take me off to do something out of the house and out of my daily routines.

I think a baseball game is a great idea! I have itchy feet too, I'll probably head to the pool, or maybe to the movies, I want to see the new Woody Harrelson movie Zombieland! :)

Hi Cranky,
A change is always good, even if it is only for a couple of hours.
Hope Skip's wounds are healing better soon.
Fish especially oily fish is recommended to promote healing.
Have a good day.
Love,
Herrad

Rain - I think I'll give the Fenway Park box office a call on Monday to see what's left for the wheelchair seating! Zombie movies seem to be the rage ... not for me, though, I can't handle movie violence.

Herrad - Thanks for the fish idea. Would Omega-3 oil fit into the oily fish category? I take that every day so could just slip one to Skip at the same time.

Hard to find a happy non violent movie now days playing. Now a big bag of buttered popcorn and watching the leaves do what leaves do . ...

Movies are such a wonderful escape. We are still looking for a theater with reasonable wheelchair seating. Being 6'5", I hailed stadium seating as the best thing since sliced bread. No more sitting in the margins to avoid blocking others' views. Unfortunately, stadium seating also means wheelchairs in the front row. Yuck.

In San Franciso, we frequented the Castro theater. Beautiful old theater with nearly the entire back row removed, leaving companion seats on the ends. We are still trying to find something like that here in Austin.

Can't wait to hear your caregiver-on-the-street report. Do you and Skip ever catch the train to New York? The Broadway theaters usually have great wheelchair seating.

It's great to see that you are thinking of doing something irresponsible for yourself. The ideas for other abnormal activities are excellent. Leaf Peeping is at a peak here right now. We saw some fine colour yesterday during a Breast Cancer charity ride.

M and I are very pleased with this post and the direction you are heading. :-) Hugs to you our friend!

Jan - I'm thinking irresponsible would be a great objective!

We do have problems finding movies that I think are worth going to a theater to see -- we particularly love PG action movies on the big screen. I must confess that gross movie buttered popcorn is a weakness of mine. :-)

Steve - the only theaters around here are multiplexes. The most common design seems to be putting the wheelchair/companion seating in 2 spots: last row and at the main thoroughfare about 1/3rd back from the screen. These seats are fine with me from a vantage perspective once people stop milling about. The Castro theater sounds great.

We've never taken the train to NYC but used to head down for weekends taking in Broadway shows once or twice a year. Broadway theaters are very well set up for wheelchairs. In fact, they often have very steep discounts for wheelchair folks (Chicago $75 tix for $7.50, f'rinstance).

L - this weekend coming up should be great viewing for the dramatic red maples, which turn pretty early. There's a graveyard near here that has literally dozens of beautiful, huge red maples. We'll pack up the girls and take a trip there, I hope.

Hoping you gals will find your way down here sooner rather than later!

A graveyard? You really know how to show a girl a good time. :-)

It's so true! I am such a party animal! I am thinking a graveyard visit and a box of buttered popcorn are good alternatives to the routine. Draw your own conclusions ....
